Some children feel anxious during dental treatment. To ease this anxiety we have nitrous oxide available in our office.
Nitrous oxide is blend of two gasses, oxygen and nitrous oxide. When inhaled, it is absorbed by the body and has a calming effect. Normal breathing eliminates the nitrous oxide from the body.
Nitrous oxide is breathed in through the nose. The smell is a sweet, pleasant aroma and allows children to experience a sense of well-being and relaxation. Nitrous oxide is perhaps the safest sedative in dentistry. It is non-addictive, mild, easily taken and quickly eliminated from the body.
Your child remains fully conscious and keeps all natural reflexes while breathing nitrous oxide. Not all children are alike and some do not feel the relaxing effects of nitrous oxide. Dr. Doyle will discuss options with you at the appointment time.
